The Winter Season - Ski Klosters

Klosters has been welcoming winter sports enthusiasts since 1904. The annual Parsenn Derby was first skied in 1924 and the funicular railway opened in 1931. Since then, continual improvement has seen the area grow into one of the premier ski regions of the world. 2005/06 saw the new Madrisa gondola open with significantly reduced up-mountain travelling time to this sunny plateau. The main Gotschna cable car continues its jumbo capabilities of transporting 125 skiers from the valley towards the Parsenn peaks every 6 minutes or so.

Boasting 320 kms of pistes, the Klosters-Davos skiing region offers an extensive winter playground for both skiers and snowboarders. The beautifully groomed piste network, accessed from either Klosters or Davos, is served by some 60 lifts including mountain railways and cable cars. The pistes vary in difficulty with predominantly intermediate terrain, but the black runs and the wealth of off-piste skiing for the more advanced make this an exciting resort for all. Given the sheer size of this area, you may find yourself alone on many of the long trails through the trees in search of that distant hamlet or "Schwendi" where a Glüwein awaits! The 12 kms marked run from the Weissfluhgipfel to Küblis on the valley floor is one of the longest in the Alps and takes you on a journey from high rocky peaks across alps through forests down to the lower meadows dotted with wooden chalets and barns.

For Snowboarders, the Jakobshorn Sunrise Snowpark offers various rails, two kicks, rolls and a quarterpipe. In the centre of the park is the Nidecker Monsterpipe - one of the best pipes in the world.

If you are seeking the extra thrill, there is enormous potential for off-piste skiing. The longest itineraries max out at around 18 kms, some involving short climbs. Guides can be arranged on request.

Cross country skiers will enjoy stunning scenery with around 100 kms of marked trails in the region. A popular alternative is snowshoe walking.

For non-skiers there are well marked and prepared winter footpaths and walks, horse drawn sleigh rides and toboggan runs. A great experience and fun for all the family is the 8.5 kms toboggan run from Madrisa to Saas. There is also the steeper, perhaps more exhilarating 4.1 kms run from Gotschnaboden to Klosters!

During the winter months we offer catered accommodation for skiers and non-skiers alike. Start the day with a continental or cooked breakfast including cereals, porridge, eggs, yoghurt, fruit or fruit juice, bread and croissants, accompanied by tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.

Our private 4x4 mini-bus will transport you direct to the lifts each morning - depending on your choice of cable car station you will be there in between 5 and 10 minutes. If you fancy a later start, the free ski bus stops just 60m from the front door.

Take run 53 from Schifer through the trees and across the pastures back to Serneus and the chalet where afternoon tea and homemade cake will be served. A delicious three course dinner follows in the evening including a choice of house wine and fresh coffee to finish. A selection of fine wine and champagne from the chalet cellar is available at extra cost if you wish.

Children aged 12 and under can have their evening meal at an earlier time if desired.

On one day of the week (normally Wednesday) its cook's night off, giving you a chance to sample the local restaurant in Serneus or one of the many in Klosters!
